The illustration to the left depicts the base arm without the Cinema Display bracket and Apple monitor.  When you factor in the depth of the Apple monitor itself, the actual viewing plane of the display can  be moved from about 3.75 inches from the back of the mount out to about 27 inches.

SIDE VIEW OF VERTICAL TRAVEL

The Ergomart CDA2718 arm has an available 17.9 inches of vertical travel. When the arm is wall mounted or mounted in such a manner that the lower part of the arm does not run into obstructions, the full vertical range of 17.9 inches is possible.

When attached to a surface that impedes the vertical travel, the arm behaves as illustrated in the lowest image.

When attached to a work surface, the lowest position possible is 6.2 inches.

Use the CDA2718 LCD Arm without an extension for virtually all seated Cinema Display viewing applications.

The desk edge clamp allows up to 9.5 inches of vertical travel. The standard CDA2718 provides plenty of height adjustability for virtually any requirement for seated desk height use.

Desk edge mount with 6 inch extension—up to 15.5 inches of vertical travel.

This extension helps to provide more of the vertical travel that is available when the base is elevated. The bottom of the Cinema Display may rest on the surface or be elevated up to 15.5 inches above the surface. This kind of vertical travel ensures that most people under 5'10" will be comfortable either sitting or standing when the arm is attached to a 29 inch high surface.

Wall mounted options allow for the full 17.9 inches vertical travel of the CDA2718.
