Small 400, Large 800 and Regular 500 seat pans are all modestly contoured. For most people from about 5' 2" to 6' 2" tall we find the 500 seatpan or the moderately contoured 600 seatpan are highly appropriate. If you are under 5' tall, we usually suggest that the 400 seatpan works best with a 3" cylinder. If you are greater than 45" in the waist area and you are over 6' 3" tall, you may wish to consider our 800 seat pan.

Notes on some of our accessories and options:

The Fring is a footrest / foot ring that spans two legs on the chair. It's especially useful for people who are a little too short for their work surface height and would like an alternative position for resting their feet besides the foot rest. Multiple positions and movement are usually favorable to constricted or single-position static postures.

Loop Arms are not recommended in any application where forearm support is required during keying
Gel Arms are softer and are recommended where forearm support is required for extensive data entry work
Upholstered Back the back shell component with the selected fabric
Lock on glides do not roll when the chair is occupied
Lock off glides do not roll when the chair is unoccupied
Use Soft Casters (urethane) for hard surface floors like tile, wood or concrete

If you are shorter than 5' tall and you have the good fortune to work at surface and or keyboard platform that is at the correct height, consider the 3" cylinder. If you work at regular height surfaces and your feet do not touch the floor, consider the Fring, and make sure you use a good footrest that allows you to rest the weight of your lower legs and feet in a forward position.

If you are over 6' 2" its usually a safe bet to use a 7" cylinder instead of a 5"; also you'll want to consider the 800 seatpan.

More Important NPE Seat Pan Information

Unless you have used or tried the 700 seat pan, we do not recommend purchasing it without testing it first. The contours of this seat pan are full and will fit some people perfectly, while others may not align properly with the deep contours. If you think the 5700, 6700, 8700 or 9700 ergonomic chair is for you, find a local dealer or retail outlet and test the chair. Chances are you will fall in love with it. If you try it and like it, please buy the chair from the person and organization who provides you the evaluation chair and their time. It is certainly fair to pay considerably more than our online prices when you get in-person service in a showroom. You will probably get your best price from a contract furniture dealer, as opposed to a "back-comfort" specialty store. Contact NPE to find the dealers in your area.
