| Neutral Posture Ergonomics (NPE) Means Adjustability |
|
Variable Angle/Seat Tension: When set in the free float mode, a chair that counterbalances the weight of the user encourages the user to not operate in one static posture for long periods of time. Overall movement promotes blood circulation, comfort and a higher level of alertness while performing continuous and intensive data entry tasks and other work. Inflatable Lumbar: Our high performance chair backs support the lower lumbar region superbly. The Inflatable Lumbar provides further firmness and volume as needed to assure an ergonomically satisfactory fit for virtually every occupant. 2" Backrest Depth: Yet another way to be certain that our chairs fit the widest possible population... And, include the 400 and 800 seat pans; we can accommodate over 99 percent of the adult population (in terms of the ergonomics of height) appropriately and comfortably seated at optimal seat depths.

The Features & Benefits of NPE Adjustments Back Height Adjustment: Sound ergonomics requires that a chair have a back height adjustment system that has good range and is easy to adjust. Our NPE chairs deliver on both accounts. There are no knobs, just lift the seat back until it clicks to the desired height. If you vary your postures from a trunk upright posture to various degrees of leaning back postures, you will find that the ideal point for lumbar support actually changes the further you lean, requiring a slight lowering of the seat back. That makes the no knob adjustment even more useful. Chair Arm Height Control: A full 4" of adjustment means we take care of about 95% of all workers in a typical population (based on height). Chair makers that provide 3" or less of arm height adjustment are not only ignoring basic ergonomics, they are ignoring more than 20% or more of a typical population. Control Arm Locations: Notice that all our controls are conveniently located very close to the chair seat pan, indicative of sound ergonomics...And the controls on our chairs that require any degree of exertion are engineered for downward activation instead of difficult or awkward exertions. Watch out for chairs that require your having arms as long and strong as a gorilla. Seat Height, Seat Angle & Back Angle: We believe that separate seat angle and back angle adjustments are ergonomically superior for people who work for long periods in the seated posture. A recent fad in chair mechanism design is the "synchronous" platform. It suits some folks just fine, but others are frustrated by a mechanism that has a set of programmed angles and a predetermined relationship between the seat pan that never allows the occupant to sit in any of the postures that he or she prefers. 360o Arm Swivel: Since the arm rests swivel in next to the torso, workers can move their elbows adjacent to their sides. This reduces the ulnar deviation of the wrist and allows the worker to key with hands and wrists closer to their proper or neutral alignment. Injuries associated with substantial wrist deviation may be reduced. The 360o arm swivel additionally promotes resting the arms on the meaty part of the forearms--not the elbows. Constant pressure on the elbows is associated with problems and injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Increased risk for repetitive stress injury (RSI) accompany poor intensive data entry posture. Improper positioning of elbows, forearms and wrists can lead to or contribute to RSI. Armrests that do not adjust in and to the front of the torso force workers to rest on the sensitive elbow region while the wrists are deviated into unnatural postures. |

The
NPE 500, 600, and 700* seat pans accommodate approximately the 2.5th to
97.5th** percentile Americans in terms of height. See the graph on
the Seat/Cylinder Matrix page to determine if you require the 400 or 800
seat. These seat pans ensure comfortable seating for most of those
whose stature places them outside of the middle 95% . |

*We
do not recommend purchasing the 700 seat pan without first testing it.
The deep contours of the 700 fit many people like a glove; others strongly
prefer the 500 or 600. Find a local dealer or retail outlet and
test the chair if you think you want a 700 seat pan. Chances are
you will fall in love with it. If you try it and like it, please
buy the chair from the person and organization who provided you the evaluation
chair and their time. If you plan to purchase additional NPE chairs
in the future, we would ask that you check our pricing and consider purchasing
with us. |
