Q: Your weight capacities for tilter heads are substantially overlapping; what do I need to know to make a decision?

A: There are three basic variations of the tilter head: Standard, Spring and HD Spring.  All three units share much in common.  Two spring-type tilters are offered with the SAA4229.  They have the same range of motion and both use a friction resistance set screw that is tightened and loosened to accommodate the desired degree of effort the user will exert to move the monitor from one tilted angle to the next.

When considering the two options, be mindful of the thickness of your monitor or device.  A very thin (2" thick) LED or LCD monitor weighing 25 pounds will work just fine with the Spring Tilter with its maximum rating of 33 pounds; however, an all-in-one computer (panel PC or iMac) or Touch Screen that weighs 25 pounds and is 5" thick would probably create too much leverage and would be a better match for the higher rated 25 to 33 pound HD Spring Tilter. If you anticipate constant use of the tilt function and want smooth ease of use with a heavier monitor, you should opt for the HD Spring Tilter. Likewise, payloads that are effectively "thicker" create added leverage.

Generally speaking, a user who wants complete ease of use when adjusting the tilt of a 30 pound iMac or a similar weight "all-in-one" computer should select the HD Spring Tilter.

If your monitor falls into a gray area, where tilter head specifications overlap, consider the following: monitor thickness (touch-screens especially tend to be front heavy and thicker), frequency of tilt adjustment desired and/or the added use of a thin client holder or bracket between the monitor and tilter.

Thicker monitors and touch screens weighted more toward the front create a greater lever force on the tilter head. If you plan to adjust the tilt frequently, opt for the stronger tilter head as it is will be easier to move up and down. If you plan to put the monitor at a fixed tilted position and rarely change it, then a the standard tilter head is usually a good choice.
