THE VESA STANDARD

VESA is an acronym for the Video Electronics Standards Association. The association consists of over 300 member companies who work together to set the technical specification standards for the video electronics market. These standards keep the industry stable and shape the future of video electronics and components.

Among the technical specifications defined by VESA are the VESA MIS, or VESA Mounting Interface Standard. The Mounting Interface Standard is a system that determines the international standards of how flatscreen monitors and other electronic devices are mounted. The MIS is dependent upon a hole pattern that is built into the monitor's design. This hole pattern is typically located on the back of a monitor. These hole patterns can be square or rectangular. The patterns are defined by the lateral and vertical measurements, in millimeters, between the hole centers. For example, the 75 x 75 mm hole pattern measures 75 mm between the hole centers of the pattern when measured across or up and down, not diagonally. "Out of the box" most monitors have an included stand or mount attached that is concealing the VESA standardized hole pattern.

VESA MIS labels are defined by the size of the screen and weight of a monitor. The VESA MIS standard is comprised of six ranges. The most common monitor sizes found in the home or workplace fall within three VESA MIS sizes. Additional VESA MIS sizes are set to define devices smaller than any currently carried by Ergomart. Ergomart offers mounting solutions for the following:

VESA MIS D is for monitors with a diagonal screen size between 12 and 22.9 inches and with a weight of up to 30.8 pounds. VESA MIS D monitors often either have 75 x 75 mm or 100 x 100 mm hole patterns.

VESA MIS E is for monitors with a screen size between 23 and 30.9 inches and a weight of up to 50 pounds. VESA MIS E compliant monitors should have a 100 x 200 mm hole pattern.

VESA MIS F is the standard for monitors with a diagonal screen size from 31 up to 90 inches and a weight of up to 250 pounds. Because VESA MIS F covers such a wide range of large monitor sizes, the VESA hole patterns associated with this group range in size as well. Generally 200 x 200 mm, 200 x 400 mm and 400 x 600 mm hole patterns are among the more common from this group.

VESA plate measurements are typically described in millimeters. These measurements are industry standards. You may measure the distance between the screw holes on the back of your monitor to determine your VESA hole pattern. The chart below converts the millimeter measurements into inches:

100 millimeter 3.937 inches About 3 and 15/16ths inches
200 millimeters 7.874 inches About 7 and 7/8ths inches
300 millimeters 11.811 inches About 11 and 13/16ths inches
400 millimeters 15.748 inches About 15 and 3/4ths inches
500 millimeters 19.685 inches About 19 and 11/16ths inches
600 millimeters 23.622 inches About 23 and 5/8ths inches

75 x 75 mm AND 100 x 100 mm VESA ADAPTOR

100 x 200 mm VESA ADAPTOR

100 x 200 mm VESA ADAPTOR FOR DUAL TILTER APPLICATIONS

This so-called "Star" VESA plate is our most commonly used VESA adaptor. It accommodates most small to mid-size monitors with 75 x 75 mm and 100 x 100 mm VESA hole patterns. The adaptor fits to a tilter mechanism utilizing the 1.9 x 1.9 inch inside holes. The device measures 4.5 x 4.5 inches in size. For monitors with recessed VESA hole patterns an additional VESA Spacer hardware kit may be needed. This rectangular 4.5 x 8.93 inch VESA adaptor mounts a larger monitor with a 100 x 200 mm VESA hole pattern to an Ergomart tilter mechanism using the four central holes which are 1.90" apart. This 4.5 x 8.43 inch rectangular VESA adaptor is designed for heavier monitors. The eight central holes measuring 1.9 inches apart are used to mount the VESA plate to a dual tilter head assembly. This adaptor is used in the PM80 Heavy-Duty Monitor Pole Mount.

200 x 200 mm VESA ADAPTOR

This square VESA adaptor mount is designed for a large monitor with a 200 x 200 mm, 100 x 200 mm, or 120 x 180 mm hole pattern. The central hole patterns are 50 x 50 mm, 75 x 75 mm, and 100 x 100 mm, allowing this bracket to interface with the mounting location using an additional standard VESA 75/100 adaptor.

This 75 x 75 mm VESA adaptor is designed be attached to the mounting location using the single hole in the middle. It can mount on another bracket with a similar central hole (e.g. Ergomart's Monolok), in which case this VESA plate can facilitate landscape to portrait rotation of the monitor. Another option is a bracket with a slot (e.g. Ergomart's thin client CPU holder or the backbar found in Monitor/Keyboard arms), which allows this sliding VESA plate to be positioned at any height along this slot. This 100 x 100 mm VESA adaptor attaches to the mounting location using the single hole in the middle. It can be installed on another bracket with a central hole (e.g. Ergomart's Monolok), enabling instant portrait/landscape orientation adjustment. It can also be mounted at the desired height on a bracket featuring a vertical slot (e.g. Ergomart's backbar used in Monitor/Keyboard arms, or a thin client CPU holder with mounting holes or slots in the front bracket). This 100 x 200 mm VESA adaptor features a single central mounting hole, which can be used to install the monitor on another bracket that has a similar hole (e.g. Ergomart's Monolok), thus allowing the monitor orientation to be changed between portrait/landscape. The same central hole also allows mounting the VESA plate on a bracket with a slot. It can also be mounted at the desired height on a bracket featuring a vertical slot, such as the ones on Ergomart's slotted thin client holders and the backbars on the Monitor/Keyboard arms. In this configuration, the monitor can be positioned at any height along the available slot.

200 x 400 mm VESA ADAPTOR

Drawing: 200 x 400 mm VESA adaptor plate
The 200 x 400 mm VESA adaptor plate accommodates a number of VESA hole patterns. It supports the 50 mm spacing for the Ergomart tilter head and 75 x 75 mm, 100 x 100 mm, 200 x 200 mm square, as well as 100 x 200 mm, 120 x 180 mm, 200 x 200 mm, 200 x 300 mm, 200 x 400 mm rectangular patterns. In some cases an additional VESA adaptor (e.g. 75 or 100 mm) may be needed to interface the 200 x 400 mm VESA plate to the mounting location.

MSU4X6: VESA PATTERNS FROM 100 X 300 mm UP TO 400 x 600 mm

Drawing: 100 x 300 mm to 400 x 600 mm adjustable VESA adaptor plate
The MSU4X6 VESA plate is designed to attach to a wide range of VESA patterns, anywhere from 100 x 300 mm up to 400 x 600 mm. This image indicates the spacing between the holes and slots with the horizontal and vertical components disassembled for clarity. The hole patterns on the central plate allow the MSU4X6 to be mounted to tilter heads or wall mounts. In most cases this necessitates the use of a smaller sized VESA adaptor plate (e.g., 75 x 75 mm, 90 x 90 mm, 100 x 100 mm, 100 x 200 mm, 200 x 200 mm) between the tilter head/wall mount and the MSU4X6.
